Sound has gotten worse. Taking an educated guess and replacing the bearing. Unfortunately no one carries axle nuts for my car anywhere so I’ll have to reuse mine which depending on who you ask is bad or not a big deal. Will have to wait for a new one in the mail.

I’d been wondering about this recently. I suspect it’s nothing to do with the bearing, but I barely know anything. It getting worse is consistent with a bearing problem, and a poorly-lubricated/beat up bearing could definitely have a friction-related heat issue that builds up, which fits in with the inconsistency of it that you’ve been describing.

I’m very interested  to hear what happens after you get the bearing swapped out!

Before re-using axle nuts, consult factory service manual. ALWAYS .

Axle nut backout is EXTREMELY dangerous. Many axle nuts which are reusable have very exact specifics about how to reuse them safely including any re-grease or mandatory crush-washer replacements. It is also critical to torque to factory spec and then re-torque at the specified point (usually 150-250 miles.)

Non-reusable axle nuts are TORQUE TO YIELD or SINGLE-USE LOCKING and MUST be replaced.

Also, expect the fancy Moog part to shit the bed within the first year. I’ve quit using Moog for wheel bearings because they just churn out junk.

Literally had no choice with reusing the nut. I’d rather keep an eye on a nut than have a bearing fail

It’s your funeral, potentially literally.

Well, the bearing is held on to the hub by 4 bolts and the wheel is held on to that by 5 lug nuts so I feel pretty ok
